The Michigan Racquetball Hall of Fame was founded in 1984. Its purpose is to honor those recipients who have demonstrated outstanding achievement, leadership or contribution to the sport of racquetball in the State of Michigan. The award is based upon years of consistent excellence in one or more of the following areas:
ABILITY: The nominated candidate(s) should have demonstrated exceptional playing ability and skill over a minimum period of 10 years. In addition at least 5 years of documented play in the State of Michigan, regional and/or national tournament competition in other states would be considered. Singles, doubles, and outdoor play are considered equally.
LEADERSHIP: Through generous giving of time and talent for the advancement of racquetball in the State of Michigan by running tournaments, conducting leagues, lessons, serving on the State Racquetball Association and/or other racquetball activities.
CONTRIBUTIONS: Through generous support, including money, facilities, products, etc. for the advancement of racquetball in the State of Michigan.
All nominees must be at least 35 years old, have a minimum of 10 years of documented racquetball participation as a player, leader, and/or contributor, 5 years must have been in Michigan.
Nominations are accepted from September 1st and closed on December 1st of every year. Nominations are to be submitted to the Hall of Fame committee. There are emails delivered to the Michigan racquetball community during the nomination period providing an overview of the process. For a nominee to be considered by the Hall of Fame Committee, a resume detailing their accomplishments must be submitted via an e-mail attachment to the Chairperson of the Hall of Fame Committee by December1.
The Hall of Fame committee operates under the umbrella of the Racquetball Association of Michigan (RAM). The members and chairman are appointed by the RAM board of directors. Early in January the committee will meet to discuss and review the resume(s). Their job is to decide what candidates,if any, should be placed on the HOF ballot.
If the committee deems the submitted candidates are to be considered for the Hall of Fame, they are placed on the HOF ballot. The ballots are mailed to over 50 persons that decide who should be placed in the Hall of Fame. The ballots are returned to the committee and counted by early March. Enshrinement into the RAM HOF takes 75% approval of the ballots returned.
Generally, at the RAM State Singles Championship every year, an announcement will be made congratulating the new Hal of Fame members.
Finally, if you have any thoughts, questions or ideas, concerning the HOF, contact the RAM board:
